Online Seminar "De-Risking and Financing Instruments for Cross Border CO₂ Infrastructure"

Online Seminar "De-Risking and Financing Instruments for Cross Border CO₂ Infrastructure"

Objective

You will gain a deeper understanding of strategies to de-risk investments in CCS projects and CO₂ infrastructure, including financial instruments, regulatory requirements, and the roles of public and private actors across Europe.

Target groups

  • CCS project managers
  • Project developers
  • Infrastructure providers
  • Investment and CCS technology experts
  • Plant and change managers
  • Regulatory affairs professionals
  • Governmental and financial organisations
  • CO₂ and climate policy experts
  • National and international associations

Description

Climate neutrality in the cement and lime industry requires the development of an extended CCS infrastructure. This includes CO₂ capture at the sites of industrial production and establishing links for CO₂ transport between widespread sources and sinks for geological CO₂ storage or use. Both, the CO₂ infrastructure and operation of CCS are related to significant investments and costs. Finally, the additional cost will have to be accommodated with the value chain and users of the industrial products. However, the build-up of carbon capture facilities and transport infrastructures are mutually dependent on each other and associated with high financial risks that can’t be controlled by the private actors alone. They will require significant initial investments, which can only pay back over decadal time periods. Such investments require dedicated strategies for the de-risiking and financing of the deployment of CCS by the industry.

In this online seminar, you will take part in a discussion about strategies for de-risking investments in CO₂ infrastructures and CCS projects. You will gain insights into potential financial de-risking instruments, the associated regulatory requirements, and the roles of public and private actors. Alongside stakeholders from industry, infrastructure providers and the financial and governmental sectors, you will assess the applicability and effectiveness of these mechanisms in enabling the deployment of CCS and CO₂ infrastructure across Europe.
