Online Seminar "Activated Clays: Production, Analysis and Performance"

Online Seminar "Activated Clays: Production, Analysis and Performance"

Objective

The online seminar provides you with extended knowledge on production, analysis and use of activated clays in cement and concrete. This includes:

  • Potentials and challenges of different thermal activation processes
  • Performance of thermal activated clays in cement & concrete, incl. durability
  • Basic principles and first experiences with mechanochemical activated clays

Target groups

  • R&D managers
  • Plant managers with experience in cement and concrete technology
  • Process engineers
  • Quality managers
  • Portfolio managers
  • Concrete producers
  • Engineers
  • Architects
  • Experienced lab staff

Description

With the decreasing availability of fly ash and blast furnace slag, activated clays are becoming a key solution to reduce the clinker factor and thus the carbon footprint of cements and concretes. The use of low-grade clays as SCM is increasing, raising entirely new questions regarding production, analysis and application. In this online seminar, you will receive a comprehensive overview of experiences with various thermal activation methods for clays. You will explore analytical challenges related to quality control of both raw and calcined clays and presents extensive evaluations of their performance in cements (CEM II/C, CEM VI, LC3 etc.). We will also discuss the effects on concrete performance in detail, covering fresh and hardened concrete properties as well as durability. First experiences with the mechanochemical activation of clays will be presented. The online seminar combines overview lectures with case studies and the latest research findings, while offering ample opportunity for discussion and exchange.

Agenda

  • Process integrated thermal activation of clays by utilisation of waste heat from clinker production line
  • Production of calcined clays in an electrified rotary kiln
  • Thermal clay activation by modular electrified linear calcination conveyor
  • Analysis of raw and calcined clays
  • Calcined clays – cement performance
  • Calcined clays – concrete performance
  • Mechanochemical activated clays – basic principles
  • Mechanochemical activated clays – practical experiences
